SYFY WIRE broke the news today that Toho and Fathom events are bringing the movie to theaters on Thursday, November 3rd, which also happens to be Godzilla Day (a.k.a. the day when the first Godzilla film premiered in Japan).

2002’s Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla is a reboot of 1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla that premiered in Japan, but never made its way across the ocean to U.S. shores. In the 2002 version, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces create a cyborg version of the original monster’s corpse to serve as a countermeasure to future potential attacks. Things so south, however, when—in Fathom’s own words—“the beast’s restless soul is discovered to inhabit the machine as the pilot [Lt. Akane Yashiro, played by Yumiko Shaku] must learn to find value in her own life.”

That doesn’t sound too great for humanity! The brief trailer for the movie above gives us a tease of some of that action. This one-day screening would also make a nice pairing with Shout! Factory TV’s  Masters of Monsters event, hosted by none other than John Carpenter(!), which takes place the weekend of November 3rd as well.

If you’re interested in checking out Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Fathom will have tickets available starting October 7th, on their website here.
